Data collecting approach

The first step was to survey learners in order to understand their perceptions and attitudes when they do academic research. After analyzing the results, there were moments for reflection and discussion in classes aiming at raising their awareness of the importance of quality research and its impact on the world.

Emerging results

Most participants tend to use only search sites to do research and find the information they need easily, so few participants ask for someone else's help.
Although most of them believe that speed is not important and does not show efficiency when doing research, it does not take most of them a long time to accomplish this kind of task.

Reflections

Since all participants belong to a generation that relies on technology for almost everything, there is a tendency to include the first and easiest information they find on the web when they do research, which might lead to inaccurate outcomes. This habit partially contrasts with what most of them see as the ideal researcher as mentioned in the Emerging Results.
After showing participants the results and engaging in class conversations, they demonstrated concern about the importance of doing quality research and its impact on the society we all live in.

Next steps

Participants will be encouraged to do some independent research to apply what they have learned after this journey.
