General topic of interest

The research seeks to understand how tailoring instruction to meet the individual needs, interests, and learning styles of high school learners affects their overall academic outcomes.

Participants

High School Learners, from São Paulo Campus

Literature Review

Drawing upon pedagogical theories such as constructivism and differentiated instruction models proposed by educators like Carol Ann Tomlinson, the research seeks to contribute to the ongoing discourse on effective teaching practices and their influence on student achievement in the high school context.

Data collecting approach

We will use pre and post internal and external assessments to compare HS academic performance before and after we intensify the use of differentiation strategies.

Data collection tools/resources

Our research team will use data from internal and external assessments (MAP Growth).

Emerging results

Learners who received accommodations showed a more significant average increase in academic performance over the analyzed periods compared to the overall group, except in the field of Natural Sciences.

Reflections

- Accommodations seem to have a positive effect on the academic performance of students, as reflected in their higher average growth.
- Differentiations strategies may improve learners' engagement in evaluations;

Based on these results, we recommend:
- expanding our research to Middle School learners, to understand if the observed results are repeated;
- include differentiated proposals, in order to stimulate choice and engagement and investigate how this relates to academic performance.
