General topic of interest

4th and 7th graders develop projects both in group and individually. We will research their interests and preferences in both scenarios.

Participants

4th graders from Escola Concept Ribeirão Preto and 7th graders from Escola Concept Salvador and teachers from grade 4 Escola Concept Ribeirão Preto and teachers from grade 7 Escola Concept Salvador.

Data collecting approach

Individual Project: students individually develop their learning path by choosing a topic of interest and elaborating a question to research with teacher’s guidance.

Data collecting example

We will use surveys to compare both educators’ and students’ perceptions on the students’ enthusiasm during projects carried out both individually and in groups. We will also consider the quality of tasks/final products developed during the projects.
We developed a Google Form to collect data from 4th and 7th graders and another one to collect data from educators.

Emerging results

Considering that 63% of the total of students from Grade 4 in Ribeirão Preto and Grade 7 in Salvador answered that they would rather develop projects in group, we could assume that most students are motivated by working collaboratively.

Reflections

Educators hypothesis:
- collaboration
- interesting topics (projects in group)
- thinking interdependently
- age group

Next steps

Our next step would be to confirm educators hypothesis through more specific researches about the development both of individual project and projects in group with larger groups of students and individual talks between educator and student.
